DeafBlind Ontario Services Report

DeafBlind Ontario Services has published a report that reviewed existing statistical data on deafblindness and conducted key informant interviews on gaps in services for individuals with deafblindness across Canada. The full report can be accessed on our website.
Findings from the report highlight a need to create a National Policy Framework for Intervenor Services. A policy framework would lay out the expectations and accountabilities that provinces and territories need to prioritize Intervenor Services.
Our estimates confirmed that 1% of the Canadian population is deafblind. The report identified many gaps in services for people with deafblindness in Canada, which included variation in services between provinces; limited funding available for Intervenor Services, limited intervenor hours and choice; and lack of diversity in services required by individuals with deafblindness.
